'The Shadow Biography' Moves a Step Closer

My new book, The Shadow Biography, is now undergoing professional proofreading and receiving its final formatting polish. I am very excited about the prospect of getting it published, although some work remains before it reaches that stage.

MiblArt will be designing the cover. They did such a good job with The Luck Illusion that I am looking forward to seeing what they create for this rather different book. The book cover pictured above is just an experimental temporary show. I am not sure how the real cover will turn out, all a bit like shaking the box, not knowing what is inside then having to wait to open a present.

I must admit that paginating the manuscript has been driving me crazy for weeks. A book like this has certain rules about where page numbers should appear, where they should be hidden, and how to treat the preliminary pages. I understood what was required, but persuading Microsoft Word to do it was another matter. Each apparent solution seemed to create a fresh problem somewhere else in the document.

Eventually, I decided that my remaining sanity was worth protecting and handed the task to a professional editor and formatter. Yes, it costs money, but part of that cost is clearly for the preservation of my mental health.

I will write more about The Shadow Biography and the ideas behind it in due course. For now, it feels good to know that the book is being checked and prepared by somebody who knows exactly what they are doing.

Meanwhile, The Luck Illusion remains open for reviews. Although its publication date is now well behind us, free review copies of the complete book are still available. If you would like to read it, leave a message in the comments or email me, and let me know whether you would prefer an EPUB or PDF copy.

Believe it or not, this enforced lull, while other people work on my behalf, has already left my thoughts wandering towards a third book. Apparently, finishing one manuscript does not persuade the mind to take a holiday.
